Exciting News!
Hale Kula Elementary and Wheeler Middle Schools received a DODEA grant to implement a blended learning program for 4th, 5th and 6th grades. Hale Kula Elementary's Blended Learning Program went live 2012-2013. Hale Kula will continue to pilot this program with one 4th grade class and one 5th grade class during the 2013-2014 school year.
What is Blended Learning?
In a Blended Learning Classroom, students learn face-to-face and virtually. In our model, students will attend school face-to-face three times a week. The other two days students will log into their classroom virtually. On their virtual learning days, students might participate in an online book discussion with a small group of their classmates, solve math problems in their online journal, take photos or video of their science research and upload their media to a class wiki.

Purpose
- To implement a different model of instruction through a combination of technology tools as well as face-to-face opportunities
- To develop collaborative, inquiry-based opportunities so our students can independently access, collaborate, communicate, and create their own learning
- To integrate 21st Century Skills into our teaching and learning to positively impact student achievement
- To provide opportunities to differentiate and individualize instruction for students based on their strengths and need
